The Georgia Nurses Foundation (GNF) and Amerigroup Georgia in partnership with TCSG, awarded 10 technical colleges in the state $2,700 individual scholarships for nursing students dedicated to working in the healthcare field.

Wilson, expected to graduate in spring 2024, was selected by ADN Program Director Sheila Mayfield-Kelly as a top candidate based on her outstanding GPA in the ADN program.

“[This scholarship] will help me tremendously on my journey to becoming a registered nurse,” said Wilson. “After graduation, I plan to serve our local community as an RN for many years to come, and I aspire to further my education to become a Nurse Practitioner.”

The scholarship program is a part of GNF and Amerigroup’s broader initiatives to decrease nursing shortages and improve access to care for patients who live in more remote areas of the state.

“Investing in the education of nursing students is vital for the future of healthcare in Georgia, especially in rural areas where the need is greatest,” said TCSG Commissioner, Greg Dozier in statement for TSCG. “We are grateful to partner with the Georgia Nurses Foundation and Amerigroup in this important endeavor.”

West Georgia Technical College, with campuses in Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson, and Troup counties and class sites in Heard and Meriwether counties, offers more than 120 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate programs of study. A unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, West Georgia Tech is one of the largest of the state’s 22 technical colleges. For more information, please visit www.westgatech.edu.
