Fire Science Technology

The modern fire service is challenging, fast-paced, and highly rewarding. Firefighters are tasked with many different roles within the community. It is our professional goal to respond to all hazards from trees down to the most complex large-scale incidents. After that major incident, we may swing by and put up a smoke detector in a home or teach a community school about fire safety. Our job is never done. We train hard and often to maintain our skills and after that, we train some more. Many fire departments are operating under lower staff meaning you may be involved in decision-making on a scene with only one partner or even on a single man apparatus. The fire service has become very integrated into EMS and they offer positions to gain experience in the foundations of medicine and pre-hospital care for life support. As firefighters, we are required to adapt and think on the fly! West Georgia Technical College can provide avenues to critical thinking and career progression through education.
