Jennifer Turner Promoted to Police Sergeant at West Georgia Technical College

CARROLLTON, GA – West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is proud to announce the promotion of Jennifer Turner to the position of police sergeant. With over 20 years of law enforcement experience, including more than a decade of dedicated service to WGTC, Sergeant Turner brings a wealth of knowledge, professionalism, and leadership to this new role.

The selection process for this promotion was rigorous, involving a comprehensive assessment that included written work, oral interviews with an evaluation panel composed of ranking officers from the Carrollton Police Department, the University of West Georgia Police Department, and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. The decision was also informed by a thorough review of work history, skills, and job performance.

“Promotions are always tough when you’ve got a group of strong candidates,” said WGTC Chief of Police James Perry. “Sergeant Turner really stood out with her leadership skills and commitment to the job. I’m excited to see her step into this new role and keep being a great asset to our team.”

As police sergeant, Turner will take on several key responsibilities, including coordinating officer schedules to ensure adequate coverage across WGTC’s seven-county service area, aiding with purchasing, inventory, and officer training, and supervising the police department’s operations.

Sergeant Turner began her law enforcement career with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Her passion for her work is clear in her excitement for this new opportunity.

“I’m excited and motivated in my new position and ready to hit the ground running,” Turner shared. “I’ve got some goals in mind to keep improving our police department and making sure we’re providing the best service possible to the college community.”

To prepare for her leadership responsibilities, Turner recently completed an intensive eight-day leadership training course at the Rome Regional Police Academy. As part of her transition, she has moved from WGTC’s Douglasville campus to the Carroll campus, where she will assume the duties of Sergeant Stevens, who is retiring in December.
