I was drawn to the field of nursing initially, because my mom was a nurse. I’ve always wanted to work helping others and I’m currently a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and plan to continue my education to become a nurse, psychiatric nurse and ultimately a physician assistant. One thing that has helped me and motivates me is having a strong sense of self. Pursue your passions despite the obstacles and stereotypes.

I am passionate about making a significant impact on small businesses, and I believe that because of scholarships, I am one step closer to realizing that dream. Donors investment in my education not only benefits me but also contributes to the communities I hope to serve.

WGTC has prepared me for my new journey in Precision Manufacturing and Maintenance by helping me learn more about the different types of machines, tools, and overall skills that I will need for my future career. I hope to encourage young women to come join the team and change the mentality that these kinds of jobs are only for men.

I’m working to become a welder. As a welder you’re not limited; you can work anywhere in the country and there is flexibility and good pay. My recommendations to other young women considering non-traditional careers would be to be willing and open to exploring new things. Research the things that they are interested in. Ask questions.

I hope that by my going back to school at my age in a non-traditional role I can show other women that they can do it too, especially in manufacturing.  I hope that I am also showing my daughter that she can do anything she wants to do in this life, and she should never let being a woman hold her back from her goals.

As I am gracefully aging, I recognize there is still work to be done within myself, my community, and an opportunity to leave a family legacy. Receiving a scholarship and grants will be part of my success towards 'It takes a village' to achieve greatness, as success is never gained by one's own talents and resources.
